Elf Jr. The Musical
One of my all-time favorite holiday movies is coming to you live at Canadian International School of Beijing (CISB) theater this November. Presenting Elf Jr. The Musical – a hilarious musical production by the CISB Grades 6-8 students on November 19, 21, and 23.
In a story based closely on the holiday classic film, Buddy the Elf starts out in Santa’s Workshop in the North Pole. Buddy accidentally overhears that she’s, in fact, human and sets off to find her human father in New York City. Her father, Walter, played by Amir, has sadly lost his Christmas spirit.
The story then follows Buddy, played by Iris, on her hilarious journey to connect with her father, help him find his Christmas spirit, and make some friends along the way.
I took a sneak peek during one of their rehearsals and even before the
kids got into costumes, they had me laughing in my seat. The cast is so
talented that a few minutes into the rehearsal I had already forgotten
that I was at a school play and just how young these kids actually are.
Elf is a fun-filled story that reminds you that the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear. This show is for the whole family, with hilarious scenes, unforgettable characters and of course amazing music. And even better – this will the first-ever performance by StageCats Junior, with a cast made up entirely of CISB’s fresh-faced middle school members!
This talented young woman adds her own touch to the holiday classic –
not an easy feat when portraying a character from a movie that many of
us can recite line by line.
The show is co-directed by teachers Angela Knowles and Jessica Mackenzie and high school student Anna, with costumes, sets, and props designed by Melissa Dickinson.
I’ve seen Elf countless times over the years and this has been one of my favorite productions! I found myself smiling throughout and wanting to chime in on my favorite lines. Elf Jr. is not-to-miss holiday family fun that’ll send you into Christmas spirit overdrive.
